Admirals Beat Essex, Fall In Blenheim As Regular-Season Winds Down

The Amherstburg Admirals split their two games this past weekend, scoring a monumental victory over the Essex 73’s, before taking one on the chin against the Blenheim Blades.

On Saturday night in Amherstburg, the Admirals got regulation goals from Brady Drouillard and Drew Booker and then shootout goals from Brett Jones and Jayden Seguin to defeat the first-place Essex 73’s by a 3-2 score. Russell Vaughan made 27 saves for his 11th win of the season in goal for the Admirals, who joined the Lakeshore Canadiens as the only two teams in the Stobbs division to knock off the 73’s this season. The Admirals are also the only team in the division to defeat both Essex and Lakeshore this season.

The Admirals hoped to avoid the emotional let-down the following night in Blenheim, but that is exactly what happened as the Blades stormed to a lopsided 8-1 victory. The energy and will to win that was needed to beat the 73’s just was not there in the 60 minutes in Blenheim and the scoreline reflected it. Freddie McCroy scored Amherstburg’s lone goal in defeat.

With five regular-season games remaining, the Admirals sit in fourth-place in the Stobbs division and trail third-place Wheatley by two points, but with a game in hand on the Sharks. Next up, the team will host back-to-back games this upcoming weekend against the Walpole Island Wild and the Lakeshore Canadiens.
