By way of two weekend home victories, the Amherstburg Admirals moved into a tie for third-place in the Stobbs division standings.
On Saturday night, power-play goals by Brett Jones and Jake Goudreault gave the Admirals a one-goal cushion through two periods of play and they were able to hang on to the lead until Allan Djordjevic salted things away with an empy-net goal for a 3-1 win over the visiting Dresden Kings. Jones had a goal and assist in the game, while goaltender Russell Vaughan made 22 saves for the win in goal.
Back on home ice on Sunday evening to take on the Wheatley Sharks, the Admirals and Sharks treated the fans in attendance to a well-played and entertaining game. The lone scoring-play of the game came late in the middle frame when Allan Djordjevic tipped a Brett Jones shot out front that eluded Wheatley netminder Jaxon Drysdale. The goal was the veteran forward’s third straight game with a goal and it would stand to be the game-winner as the Admirals, in big part to the stellar goaltending of Russell Vaughan, staved off the Sharks pressure in the third to take a 1-0 final. Vaughan stopped 31 shots in total for his fourth win of the season and his first career shutout.
The win moved the Admirals ahead of the Sharks and into a tie for third-place with the Mooretown Flags. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night when the Admirals head to Wheatley for the third of six total matchups.
