Admirals Conclude Road Swing With Victory In Mooretown

The Amherstburg Admirals wrapped up a four-game road swing with a 5-4 win over the Mooretown Flags on Saturday night in Mooretown.

The Admirals scored three times in the first period to take a one-goal lead into the first intermission, and then Layne Crispin’s third goal of the season upped the lead to two through 40 minutes of play. Midway through the third, rookie defenseman Travis Knight scored his first career goal to make it 5-2 and the game looked to be in the bag. However, the Flags would score two goals 19 seconds apart to cut the lead to one and make for a frantic finish. An Admirals penalty in the final two minutes made things even hairier, but the penalty-killers in front of goaltender Joe Costea held their ground to prevent the Flags from tying the game, and the visitors left the ice with the victory.

Costea made 44 stops for his second win of the season as the Flags outshot the Admiras 48-38 overall. Stefan Jacobs led the way offensively with a goal and two assists and was named the game’s First Star, while linemate Jake Archer added a goal and an assist of his own. Travis Knight and Derek Berdusco each registered a goal and an assist.

With the win, the Admirals split their two game week and have been victorious in two of their past three games.

Earlier in the week, Amherstburg fell by a score of 7-2 to the Blenheim Blades. In a game that was closer than the score indicated, the shorthanded Admirals who were missing six regulars in the lineup, stayed with the undefeated Blades through two periods, but saw their opponents add three goals in the third period to blow the doors open on an otherwise close game.

With the road trip in the rearview, the Admirals will now play three straight games at home, beginning this weekend. On Saturday night, they will host the Dresden Kings for a 7:30 PM start, and then will welcome the Wheatley Sharks on Sunday night at 7:00 PM.
