The Amherstburg Admirals suffered a pair of lopsided defeats this past week to fall to 0-3 on the young season.
The Admirals started their tough two-game week against the league’s top two teams with a blowout loss in Essex. The high-powered 73’s scored and didn’t stop scoring through the 60 minutes of hockey, and when all was said and done, left the ice with a 13-0 victory. First-year netminder Joe Costea was pulled in the first period, and gave way to Josh Courtney who did his best to try and stop the 73’s onslaught before leaving the game late in the third period.
With suspensions to key players and an injury to their starting goalie Courtney, the Admirals were in tough again on Saturday when they welcomed the four-time defending Stobbs division champion Lakeshore Canadiens to the Libro Centre. AP netminder Noah Spadotto got the nod in goal and played well in his first period of action to limit the Canadiens to two goals. Lakeshore would get to him for five in the second however and unfortuately another route was on. The visitors would add one more in the third to result in a 8-0 win.
Despite the two tough losses, the Admirals will slowly begin to get some bodies back in the lineup for two more games this upcoming week. Overage forward Jake Archer will return to action after serving a two-game suspension handed out from the season-opener against Walpole Island. Courtney also figures to return on Wednesday night as the Admirals travel to Wheatley to take on the Sharks. The following night, they will head to Walpole Island for the team’s first bus trip of the season.
