The Amherstburg Admirals hung in with the undefeated Essex 73’s, staying within two goals for the entire game before ultimately falling by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night in Amherstburg.
After losses earlier in the week to Wheatley and Walpole Island, the Admirals did a good job of limiting the high-powered 73’s to shots from a distance or from the perimeter. Goaltender Josh Courtney was named First Star of the game, making 39 shots in total to help keep his team within striking distance. Allan Djordjevic and Jake Archer scored for the Admirals, who yielded an empty-net goal with 12 seconds left in regulation to result in the 5-2 Final.
It was an emotional three-game week that began by learning of the tragic passing of Lakeshore Canadiens forward Sylvain Lessard. A moment of silence in Sylvain’s honour was held prior to all three games, and the Amherstburg Admirals continue to send prayers and condolences to Sylvain’s family and friends.
