Assistant coach Zack Gervais has been elevated to head coach, as the Amherstburg Admirals announce a coaching change.

Gervais, 28, takes over from Beau Hunter who the team parted ways with following a lopsided defeat last week in Wheatley. The Tecumseh native has coached at the U18 level for 10 years and was also head coach of the Tecumseh Eagles at the U15 and U16 levels. He joined the Admirals coaching staff midway through the 2023-24 season where he had remained an assistant.

“Zack is the ideal personality to fit the group of players that we have,” General Manager Andrew Sykes said. The imprint he left on the players as an assistant coach became obvious, and the way he communicates and operates as a coach is a reflection of the team as a whole. His coaching and leadership style enhances the culture of the organization, and I look forward to working alongside Zack and watching him further develop as a coach.”

Sykes said the team was told of Zack’s promotion before warm-up of Tuesday night’s game in Essex and were happy with the news. “When we told the players the whole room erupted. It is clear that these players will play extremely hard for Zack.”

Gervais will get his second crack at earning his first junior win as head coach when the Admirals take on the Walpole Island Wild on Thursday.
