Admirals Sign Cote, Costea and Russett

The Amherstburg Admirals have officially added three new players for next season, having announced the signing of forwards Evan Cote and Finnigan Russett, along with goaltender Joe Costea.

Cote, 18 is a Belle River native who has spent the past several seasons with a very successful Riverside Rangers team who were Ontario finalists in 2022 and then semifinalists in 2023. The 6’3″ forward captained the Rangers, providing great leadership on and off the ice. “We are extremely excited to land a player with Evan’s ability, pedigree and character,” Admirals General Manager Andrew Sykes said. “He is a big bodied forward with a high hockey IQ,” Sykes continued. “He has smart vision and moves the puck around really well, and not only does he have a good shot that he can score with, but he is also a smart and accurate shooter who understands when to get the puck to the net.”

Cote’s longtime teammate Joe Costea will be the club’s newest addition between the pipes. The 17-year-old Windsor native was also a member of the Riverside Rangers and quickly caught the eye of Admirals management at the team’s Prospects Camp in April. “Joe stood out immediately because of his quickness,” noted Sykes. “The way he moves with such quickness and agility is really impressive, and it gives him the ability to make some highlight-reel saves. “We feel Joe is a player with a ton of potential and someone who fans will enjoy watching.”

Joining them will be 2006 forward Finnigan Russett, who like Cote, was captain of his Windsor Jr. Spitfires Midget AA team. The Windsor native impressed at Admirals Prospects Camp where he led the camp in goals and points, and is someone that General Manager Sykes is confident will make an impact in a variety of ways. “Finnigan has many different elements that make him an attractive player. He thinks the game very well, and is an opportunist with a knack for timing in the offensive zone,” said Sykes. He has a real confidence in himself on the ice, and is someone who will be able to make positive contributions on any line and in any role.”

“The Amherstburg Admirals are excited and fortunate to have these three young players, and hopefully it paves the way for prospective players to take note of the positive direction that the organization is headed in,” concluded Sykes.

Welcome to the Admirals, Evan, Joe and Finnigan!
