Admirals Sign Leach, Turn Attention To Training Camp

The Amherstburg Admirals announced the signing of 2007-born forward Cory Leach, adding to a busy off-season of newcomers to the roster.

A Windsor native, Leach joins the Admirals after spending the tail-end of his minor hockey career in the Windsor Jr. Spitfires AAA program. Having played for the U18 AAA Jr. Spits this past season, Leach is the second player from that team to sign with the Admirals this off-season, joining defenseman Freddie McCroy.

“Cory is a player we had targeted dating back to last year’s Training Camp and then again out of our 2024 Spring Camp,” General Manager Andrew Sykes said. “His speed, skill, and potential was exactly what we were looking for and his pedigree of playing at a high level will be invaluable to his own success as he makes the jump to junior hockey.”

With seven new players signed by the Admirals this summer, Sykes says the roster has shaped up nicely and with several spots still up for grabs, he expects to see a competitive training camp. “Our staff is really looking forward to camp and seeing who steps up and grabs a spot,” Sykes said. “We have a few holes to fill on forward and have a number of good candidates for them, so the competition at Training Camp will be fun to watch, and as awlays it will be interesting to see what shakes out from other team’s camps at both the Jr. C and Jr. B levels.”

The Admirals 2024 Training Camp is set for August 23-25 and the team’s first exhibition game is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3 in Essex against the 73’s.
