Admirals Take Three Of Four Points Against Lakeshore And Blenheim

A Rory Sandison overtime goal capped off a successful weekend for the Amherstburg Admirals, who took three of a possible four points from their two games.

On Saturday night at the Libro Credit Union Centre, the Admirals picked up their first home win of the season when Sandison beat the overtime buzzer by deflecting a Jake Goudreault shot to give his team a 2-1 victory in front of the home fans. It was Sandison’s fourth straight game with a goal and his Stobbs division-leading eighth goal of the season. Captain Darby Drouillard scored the Admirals lone goal in regulation on a beautiful shot, while AP call-up Dominic De Zorzi was stellar in goal, making 31 saves to earn his first win in what was his first career start.

On Friday night, the Admirals were a victim of an OT goal against, as Trevor Larue scored at 3:32 of the extra period to give the Lakeshore Canadiens a 5-4 win. The Admirals outshot the defending Schmaltz Cup champions 23-11 in the first period and would hold leads of 3-1 after one period and 4-2 after two, but could not fend off the Canadiens from tying the game in the third. Cory Leach, Jake Goudreault, Jack Wycisk and Rory Sandison scored goals, while Jay Procter made 37 saves.

The three points moved the Admirals to a record of 4-5-1 and up into fifth-place in the Stobbs division. The team’s next action comes on Friday when they head to Dresden to take on the Kings, followed by a Saturday night home game against the Walpole Island Wild.
