Admirals Pick Up First Win, Split Weekend Games

Amherstburg Admirals 3 vs. Mooretown Flags 2

The Amherstburg Admirals held on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the visiting Mooretown Flags Sunday afternoon at Libro Credit Union Centre.

The Admirals wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Alex Schneider scored on the opening shift of the game to give Amherstburg an early 1-0 lead. Parker Janisse added another before the end of the opening period, sending the Admirals into the first intermission with a 2-0 advantage.

Amherstburg struck again on the first shift of the second period, with Freddie McCroy making it 3-0. From there, the Flags turned up the pressure to get back in the game, making it 3-2 with just six minutes remaining. The Amherstburg penalty-killing and shorthanded defensive unit battled tooth and nail in the final minutes, protecting the one-goal lead in front of goaltender Bennett Horrocks.

Horrocks was outstanding, turning aside 42 of 44 shots on his way to earning First Star honours. Mooretown finished the game with a 44-36 advantage in shots. Parker Janisse and Brayden Hebert each recorded multi-point games to help lead the Admirals to the win.

Amherstburg Admirals 0 at Lakeshore Canadiens 3

The Admirals battled hard Friday night at the Atlas Tube Centre but came up on the wrong side of a 3-0 decision against the Lakeshore Canadiens.

The game remained scoreless through the first two periods, as the Admirals’ defensive effort and strong goaltending from former Canadien Hunter Welk kept Lakeshore off the scoreboard.

The Canadiens finally broke through in the third period, scoring three goals in a six-minute span to take control of the game and skate away with the 3-0 victory.

Lakeshore finished the night with a 39-18 advantage in shots, but the Admirals’ goaltending and defensive play kept the game within reach for much of the night.
