Admirals Season Ends After Third-Period Collapse In Game 5

The Amherstburg Admirals season came to an end with a Game 5 defeat in Thursday night in Blenheim.

A high-scoring, back and forth affair saw the Admirals fight back from a two-goal deficit to take a 5-4 lead heading into the third period. Finnigan Russett and Jake Archer each scored twice to stake the Admirals to the one-goal lead after 40 minutes, but as the teams took the ice for the third that tenuous lead evaporated quickly. The Blades would go on to score on the first shift of the third to tie the game and then scored two more before the three-minute mark of the period. That flurry of goals chased goaltender Joe Costea from the net and Blenheim would not look back from there, taking the game by a score of 8-5 and winning the Stobbs Quarterfinal series 4-1.

It was a hard-fought series by the upstart Admirals who found themselves in every one of the five games. In the end, the Blades experience and firepower from the likes of overage stars Craig Spence and Tate Bowden was too much to withstand. Veteran forward Connor Demelo led the team in scoring with six points in the five games, while rookie forward Finnigan Russett continued his late-season breakout by leading the Admirals with four goals in the series.

The Amherstburg Admirals thank all of our great fans and sponsors for the amazing support this season!!
