The Amherstburg Admirals got back into the win column with a thrilling victory over the Dresden Kings on Friday night in Dresden.
Despite peppering Kings goaltender Joe Malinowski with 40 shots through 59 minutes of hockey, the Admirals found themselves without a goal and trailing 1-0 in the dying stages of the game. However, just when it looked headed towards a disappointing result, defenseman Jadyn Brown found himself with a clear path to the Dresden net. Upon picking his head up and seeing how much time he had, the veteran blueliner patiently took a few steps into the slot and let a perfect shot go that eluded Malinowski to tie things up at 1-1.
The game seemed destined to head to overtime, but the visitors kept coming and had different ideas on this night. With the clock ticking down, speedy winger Stefan Jacobs took the puck hard to the Kings net and had his attempt followed up by assistant captain Connot Demelo who put the rebound home with 0.9 seconds left. It was the first goal of the season for Demelo who made his return after suffering an injury on September 28.
Josh Courtney made 34 saves for the Admirals to record his well-deserved first victory of the season. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for the team overall.
The Admirals will look to build on the momentum with two games upcoming this week. First they will travel to Blenheim to take on the Blades on Thursday night, and then will return home and play host to the Lakeshore Canadiens on Saturday night.
