Admirals Drop Pair Of Games To Top Teams

The Amherstburg Admirals dropped both of their games this past week, with defeats coming at the hands of two of the top teams in the league, the Blenheim Blades and Lakeshore Canadiens.

On Thursday night in Blenheim, the Admirals opened the scoring early in the first period on rookie defenseman Travis Knight’s second goal of the season. The Blades would however go on to score six of the game’s next seven goals, and took a commanding 6-2 lead into the second intermission.

The Admirals would cut the lead to 6-4 midway through the second but Blades captain Craig Spence’s third goal of the night at 12:47 of the third period pushed the lead back to three and all but put things to bed. Connor Demelo scored with 12 seconds left in regulation to result in a 7-5 final in favour of the home side. Charlie Coristine led the Amherstburg offense in defeat, registering a goal and two assists in what was his second game with the team. Defenseman Jake Goudreaut potted his first career goal and added an assist for a two-point night.

Faced with another major challenge at home on Saturday night, the Admirals welcomed the Lakeshore Canadiens who came in riding an eight-game winning streak. After a scoreless first period, the Admirals got on the board first for the second straight game when Charlie Coristine found the back of the net just 17 seconds into the second period. After a great first 23 minutes of hockey to get themselves the lead, the Admirals watched as the Canadiens found their scoring legs for six goals in the middle frame. They would go on to coast to an 8-1 victory in front of 205 fans at the Libro Centre.

The team will look to shake off those results with two big games upcoming. First they will travel to Dresden to take on the Kings on Friday night, before being back on home ice on Saturday when they will play host to the Walpole Island Kings. The two games kick off a key stretch for the Admirals as the next few games will be important for positioning in the Stobbs Division standings.
