Admirals Split Exhibitions, Turn Focus To Home Opener

The Amherstburg Admirals split their two pre-season games, dropping a one-goal affair against the Essex 73’s and then coming out on the better side of a one-goal game against the Wheatley Sharks.

Against Essex, first-year netminder Joe Costea made 44 saves and was strong in the third period to keep his team in the game, but the Admirals were unable to find the equalizer and fell to the 73’s by a score of 4-3. Evan Cote, Owen Papulkas and Braeden Armstrong tallied goals in the defeat.

The following night, the Admirals travelled to Wheatley to take on the Sharks, and after a poor start that saw the team fall behind 2-0 through 20 minutes of play, they were able to rally with a strong second period. Goals by Layne Crispin, Drake McGowan and Allan Djordjevic put the Admirals up by one heading into the third, and after the Sharks cut the lead to one mid-way through the period, Crispin put away his second of the night to break the deadlock and round out the scoring in a 5-4 victory. Josh Courtney made 33 stops to pick up the win in goal, while Crispin’s two goals and two assists each from Lukas Boudreau and Stefan Jacobs paced the offense.

The Admirals will now shift focus to their season and home opener, which is set for this Saturday, September 16. Game-time is set for 7:30 PM at the Libro Centre and fans are encouraged to get there early to be ready for the pre-game festivities, which include player introductions, a cannon firing, and a ceremonial face-off. Our very own Addy the Bear will be on hand as well.

See you Saturday and Let’s Go Admirals!!
