Following a well-played game on Saturday night against Mooretown that didn’t yield the wanted result, the Amherstburg Admirals skated to a 6-4 victory over the Blenheim Blades on Sunday night in Blenheim, taking four of a possible six points in a three-game road-trip in the process.
Darby’s Drouillard’s power-play goal at 7:26 put the Admirals up by two and they would hold on until Drew Booker put the game to rest with an empty-net goal coming just shy of the final minute of regulation.
After falling behind 1-0, two first period goals by Rory Sandison and one by Darby Drouillard gave the Admirals a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes. From there the Blades would cut the deficit to one on two different occasions, until Drouillard’s third period tally gave his team the cushion they needed.
Goaltender Jay Procter stood his ground against a bevy of shots sent his way, making 41 saves in total to earn his second win of the week in goal. Admirals captain Darby Drouillard paced the offense with a goal and two assists, while Rory Sandison, Dallas Kelly, Drew Booker, Jack Bulmer and Cory Leach all had multi-point games.
The win was an important one in terms of timing and moved the Admirals to a record of 2-3 on the young season. The team’s next action comes this Saturday when they will host the Walpole Island Wild at the Libro Centre.
