Admirals Jump Out To 2-0 Series Lead After Weekend Wins

The Amherstburg Admirals followed up a stellar road game on Saturday in Mooretown with a thrilling OT victory on Sunday in Amherstburg to jump out to a 2-0 series lead over the Mooretown Flags.

Cory Leach’s goal at 4:39 of overtime lifted the Admirals to a 4-3 overtime victory in Game 2, a game in which the visiting Flags erased a two-goal second period deficit to force the extra frame. Brady Drouillard netted two more goals as the red-hot forward has now scored in four straight contests. Stefan Djordjevic had the other Amherstburg goal in regulation, while Bennett Horrocks made 28 saves to pick up the win just as he did the previous night.

In Game 1 on Saturday night in Moorerown, the Admirals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second period on goals by Brady Drouillard, Stefan Djordjevic and Cale Marontate. Pouring 60 total shots on the Mooretown net, it was an impressive display of goaltending by both John Chartrand and Bennett Horrocks, with Horrocks out-dueling the veteran netminder. The rookie netminder denied the Flags comeback hopes with a 42-save performance in his team’s Game 1 win.

Game 3 in the best-of-seven series is Thursday night in Mooretown, before shifting back to Amherstburg for Game 4 on Friday.
