The Amherstburg Admirals won both of their weekend games over the Dresden Kings and Walpole Island Wild, moving up to fourth-place in the Stobbs division standings in the process.
On Friday in Dresden, Jack Bulmer’s second goal of the evening broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period and lifted the Admirals to a 3-2 victory over the Kings. Cory Leach scored the other Amherstburg goal, while Russell Vaughan made 23 saves for his second win of the season in net.
Returning home for the third meeting of the year with Walpole Island, the Admirals got off to a great start with Cooper Bulmer, Drew Booker and Brett Jones all scoring first period goals for a 3-0 lead through 20 minutes. The Wild responded with two unanswered goals in the second until Jones scored his second of the night to restore the two-goal advantage. The Wild scored the lone goal of a penalty-filled third period but the Admirals held on for the 4-3 victory. Jones paced the offense with two goals and an assist, while Jay Procter made 14 stops in the win. Rookie defenseman Cooper Bulmer’s goal was the first of his junior career.
The two wins moved the Admirals to a record of 6-5-1 and jumped them over the Mooretown Flags for fourth-place in the division. The team now prepares for two tough games this weekend, starting with the Lakeshore Canadiens on Saturday night and followed by a showdown with the Flags on Sunday. Both games are at the Libro Credit Union Centre with Saturday’s game beginning at the regular time of 7:30 PM, while Sunday will be a 6:30 PM start.
