Admirals Pick Up Point In Shootout Loss To Mooretown

In two weekend home games, the Amherstburg Admirals were defeated soundly by the Lakeshore Canadiens and then dropped a 2-1 shootout decision against the Mooretown Flags.

In Sunday’s game against Mooretown, the Admirals controlled much of the game and out-shot and out-chanced the Flags, but could only get one puck past netminder John Chartrand. The Flags goalie made 43 saves in regulation and overtime and then stopped both Admirals shooters in the shootout to preserve the win for his team. Rory Sandison scored Amherstburg’s lone goal, while Russell Vaughan made 28 stops in the Admirals net.

On Saturday night at the Libro Centre, the first-place Lakeshore Canadiens firepower was on full display in a lopsided 9-3 victory. Unlike the previous two meetings between the two teams which were close games, the Admirals could not slow down the defending Schmaltz Cup champions on this occasion. Finn Russett, Brett Jones and Jake Goudreault scored in the loss.

The shootout loss to Mooretown put the Admirals one point behind the Flags in the Stobbs Division standings. The Admirals will enter the new week of action in fifth-place with an overall record of 6-6-1-1, but will have the chance to regain fourth-place when the team travels to Mooretown for their lone game of the week on Saturday night.
