Admirals Take Game 1 On The Road

The Amherstburg Admirals opened the 2025 Schmalz Cup Playoffs with a 4-2 road victory over the Wheatley Sharks on Wednesday night in Wheatley.

Second period goals by Rory Sandison and Brady Drouillard erased a 1-0 first-period deficit and gave the visiting Admirals a one-goal lead through 40 minutes of play. Drew Booker upped the lead to two midway through the third but the Sharks would get it back on a goal by Josh Chauvin coming at 17:40 of the period. With the goalie pulled for the extra attacker, AP call-up Brayden Hebert iced the game away with an empty-net tally with just over a minute left in regulation to secure the win for his team.

Admirals goaltender Dominic De Zorzi was named First Star of the game for his 40-save performance that saw him earn his first career playoff victory, while Hebert’s goal and an assist earned him Second Star. Drew Booker was the other Admirals player with a multi-point outing.

The best-of-seven series now shifts to Amherstburg for Game 2 on Saturday night with the puck dropping at 7:30 PM.
