The Amherstburg Admirals have announced that Derek Berdusco will be the team’s captain for the 2023-24 season.
An Amerstburg native, Berdusco will be one of the team’s four overagers as he enters his final season of junior hockey eligiblity. The 21-year-old defenseman appeared in 26 regular season games last season with the Admirals, collecting 10 assists. He previously played for the Jr. B LaSalle Vipers, and before that he made minor hockey stops with the Amherstburg Stars, Sun County Panthers, and Windsor Jr. Spitfires.
“I am truly honoured to be given the opportunity to be the Captain in my home town,” Berdusco said. “I am looking forward to this season and what our outcome will be.”
“We are lucky to have Berdy’s presence not only on the ice, but off of it as well,” said General Manager Andrew Sykes. I’ve known him as a player since his Sun County AAA days and then on a more personal level when we were together with the Vipers,” Sykes continued. “He is someone who is well-liked and well-respected by his peers and someone who leads by the effort he brings to every shift. We look forward to having Derek lead this team and for him to set his example for others to follow.”
And that role as a leader is something Berdusco embraces and is excited for. “I can’t wait to lead the Addy’s to a successful year and help bring the best out of everyone.”
The Admirals will open up their 2023 Training Camp on Friday, August 25, and play the first of two exhibition games on September 6 in Essex against the 73’s.
