Second Period Flurry Sinks Admirals In Loss To Kings

The Dresden Kings scored three times in the first four minutes of the second period on route to a 5-2 victory over the Amherstburg Admirals on Saturday night in Amherstburg.

After Jake Archer and Jackson Arcand traded goals in the first period, Dresden would go on to score three goals in a three-minute span early in the second to take a 4-1 lead. The three quick goals stunned the Admirals, as they had controlled much of the play and held a 26-10 advantage in shots at that point. The flurry of goals chased starter Josh Courtney from the net, after yielding four goals on just ten shots.

The scored went unchanged until Anderson Koziol and Stefan Jacobs scored for their respective teams early in the third. The Kings would hold the fort the rest of the way and left the ice with s 5-2 victory. For the Admirals, it was a tough pill to swallow as they surely felt the outcome could have been much different. The Admirals outshot the Kings 18-4 in the first period and 42-35 overall in the game and had more than enough scoring chances on Kings netminder Joe Malinowski who made 40 stops to take home the game’s 1st Star selection.

The Admirals will look to turn the page and prepare for two more key games this upcoming week. A home-and-home set against the Mooretown Flags starts on Saturday night in Mooretown, before the two teams meet again on Sunday night in Amherstburg.
